What is format of NEXT Exam 2024 in Medical Science

What will be the format of NEXT examination The NEXT is a two-step examination that tests the theoretical and practical knowledge of MBBS graduates. It is conducted by a central authority under the commission.

NExT Step 1: This is a computer-based/online examination that consists of six papers covering the subjects of III MBBS/Final MBBS, both Part 1 and Part 2. The papers are:

- Medicine and allied disciplines - Surgery and allied disciplines - Obstetrics and Gynaecology - Paediatrics - Otorhinolaryngology - Ophthalmology - Applied aspects of all subjects covered under I MBBS and II MBBS - Applied aspects of all subjects covered under III MBBS/Final MBBS Part 1

The examination is held once a year before the university practical examination for the III MBBS (Part 2)/Final MBBS. Candidates who have completed the III MBBS/Final MBBS course from a recognized medical college are eligible to appear in the examination. Those who fail in one or more papers can take a supplementary examination once a year. Those who do not pass both the regular and supplementary examinations in a year have to wait for the next year to take the regular examination again. There is no limit to the number of attempts, but candidates have to pass both NExT Step 1 and NExT Step 2 within 10 years of joining the MBBS course.

NExT Step 2: This is a practical examination that assesses the clinical skills and competencies of MBBS graduates. It is held after the completion of compulsory rotating internship.
